New Gallery Page - Golden West Airlines

Beginning in March 1969, Long Beach, California based Aero Commuter began assembling a collection of commuter airlines in Central and Southern California. The backbone of each airline's fleet was the Twin Otter, and the amalgamation put together the largest single Twin Otter fleet in the world. On July 15, 1969 Aero Commuter changed their name to Golden West Airlines - a company which continued to operate until 1983.

 

The new gallery page has over eighty photographs of the aircraft that were brought together in 1969 to form Golden West.

And sadly, from the beauty of Misty Fjords in 1997, to a rebuild project in 2011. With the tail and nose sections having been donated to another project, the balance of the aircraft was sold to Ikhana Group in 2012 for rebuilding.

This aircraft will shortly depart on delivery to Isle of Scilly Skybus at Lands End, where it is expected to become G-ISSG.

As noted in the blog entry for 20-Mar-2013, cancelled from the CCAR 19-Mar-2013; the aircraft has now been registered to Tudor Investments Corp., Greenwich, CT as of 26-Mar-2013 as N77TF.

Tudor Investments is an asset management firm headed by Paul Tudor Jones. The registration N77TF was previously carried by an amphibious Cessna Caravan used primarily as a yacht tender.

Always nice to see another Series 400 coming out of Spokane in the scheme of an established commercial airline. C-GLVA is destined for Regent Airways in Dhaka, where it will become S2-AHE.

 

The aircraft will be fitted with amphibious floats and operate under contract to Chevron Bangladesh.

C-GVVA has now departed Victoria; whether this is actually the delivery flight remains to be seen at this point.

 

*Update* C-GVVA has remained in Missoula through 16-Mar-2013 - but I'm not exactly sure of the reason why. Missoula is the home base of a current corporately flown legacy Twin Otter (along with a BBJ,  2 Challenger 300s & 2 Hawker 800s) - but my understanding was that MSN 870 was destined for another operator. Time will tell....

After yesterday's aborted run across the Bering Strait and eventual landing at Nome, C-FAFI is once again airborne, and at the moment (1700 EDT) climbing throught 6,000ft en route Anadyr.

The strong airplane spotter community in Malta can be counted on to catch all the newsworthy activity at the airport there. Taxiing out for departure to Heraklion, Greece is Zimex HB-LRB bound for Red Cross duties in Africa. It is the former 5A-DBF which was previously jointly owned by Zimex and Petro Air.

C-FAFI has resumed its delivery flight to Indonesia today, and is currently bound for Anadyr-Ugolny, Russia with a planned flight time of 7 hrs & 39 minutes.

 

In looking at the weather reports for Anadyr over the past 48 hours, I'd expect that was  the cause of the delay in departure from Whitehorse.

Update: It appears that after almost crossing the Bering Strait, short of Provideniya C-FAFI has reversed course. The aircraft has now landed in Nome, AK. Presumably the weather at destination and alternates was below minimums.

The first leg of the delivery flight of Airfast Indonesia's second Series 400 Twin Otter has been completed with a flight time of 6 hrs and 3 mins.  This is the first instance when Whitehorse, YT has been used as the initial stop rather than Anchorage, AK.

Pictured below as it arrived in Victoria, BC following painting on 02-Nov-2012, the aircraft had remained in Victoria undergoing pre-delivery installations until departing today.

C-FGOG is returning to Canada following over two years on contract in the Republic of Georgia.

It was delivered there on 28-Nov-2010 when it flew Iqaluit (CYFB) to Keflavik (BIKF) before later continuing on to Prestwick (EGPK), Budapest (LHBP) and Tblisi (UGTB).

C-FGON has departed the paint shop in Mena, AR and is routing to Louisville, KY & Hamilton, ON on it's way back to base in Goose Bay, NL. The aircraft has been out of service with Air Labrador since 01-Oct-2012 when it arrived in Springbank, AB for overhaul.

Following a night-stop in Calgary, AB N692AR is continuing on to Fort St. John, BC today. If last year is any indication, the destination should be Alaska, as N331AR (MSN 331) flew the same route between 30-Mar-2012/03-Apr-2012. That aircraft remained in Alaska for about two weeks before returning to Colorado.

C-FCSW flew non-stop from Whitehorse, YT to Springbank, AB on 26-Jan-2013 on delivery to Ashe Aircraft Enterprises.

The second U.S. Army Golden Knights aircraft has positioned up to San Bernardino, CA likely for paint work (as was the case with MSN 852 N752RT). It is expected to return to French Vally in due course before being delivered to the Golden Knights.
