The flight time for the last leg being 12 hours and 44 minutes, coming in slightly better than planned, and making the total Trans-Pacific air time of 38 hours and 57 minutes from North Bend, OR.

MSN 77 N808PC is seen below back in October 2012 in a nice shot from the Shutter Priority collection. You can see that she quite needed the new purple paintjob that we featured in the blog on 19-Apr-2013. The former dark red Tamalik Air scheme had faded and oxidized considerably in the three years it has spent in the U.K.

23-May-2013 Update

Thanks to the Assistant Editor at Aviation Letter we now have a couple of photographs of MSN 139 and 510 which were covered in the blog back on 23-May-2013. As can be seen, the work being undertaken by National Aerotech is as described in the earlier post. Again, it would be interesting to know a bit of the background as to why the work is being done.

139 - DHC-6-200 ex-N719AS National Aerotech Aviation Delaware, Wilmington, DE

Fuselage noted hangared at the National Aerotech facility at Hampton, GA 15-Apr-2013; in primer and being rebuilt with cockpit section from donor airframe, MSN 510 (see below). This aircraft has been present at Hampton since at least 2009 and the registration N719AS was cancelled on 03-Oct-2011.

510 - DHC-6-300 J8-GAL SVG Air, Kingstown, St. Vincent

Fuselage noted hangared at the National Aerotech facility at Hampton, GA 15-Apr-2013; overall white c/s, wings located outside of hangar, and cockpit section has been removed for mating with MSN 139 (see above).

 

MSN 510 has been present at Hampton since at least Aug-2012 when it was noted outside, intact and with SVG Air markings, as seen in the photo below.

 

 

At the outset, I'm not sure of the actual original contributor of the information above, so I am only reporting what has been written. It would be interesting however, assuming that the engineering work described above is correct, to understand a bit more about the two airframes. The history of 139 is murky at best since 2003, but I am not aware of any accidents since its encounter with a ditch in Samoa in 1999 that would require a graft of the cockpit section. On the other side, I'm also not aware of anything having occurred to 510 that would make it a candidate to donate the cockpit section to another airframe.

 

Also remaining at Hampton is the fuselage section of MSN 186, N186AL in the same state as noted in the photograph below. This aircraft has been grounded since 2009.

As suggested by the blog entry on 18-May-2013, the aircraft has now been officially registered to Planes & Parts Ltd., Turner Valley, AB as of 22-May-2013. It is expected to be positioned from Victoria, BC to Springbank, AB for installation of ferry tanks and then depart on delivery to Hevilift.

 

This will be the second trans-Pacific delivery for Planes & Parts during May, MSN 518 C-GSOZ was ferried to Balikpapan, Indonesia 13/18-May-2013.

Sold to L-3 Communications Advanced Aviation LLC, Helena, MT 07-May-2013, and then to Turbo Flight Aviation LLC, Missoula, MT same day. This is the same sequence of events as occurred with Greenwood's other Twin Otter N504WJ back in October 2012.

 

N562CP departed the ASI facility at West Georgia Regional on 02-May-2013 and was in Billings, MT by 08-May-2013 before returning to Oklahoma that same day.

518 - DHC-6-300 C-GSOZ Planes & Parts Ltd., Turner Valley, AB

C-GSOZ has completed its delivery flight to PT Air Borneo on arrival at Balikpapan, having departed Calgary, AB on 13-May-2013.

 

The aircraft is expected to take up the Indonesian marks PK-BAF, and is the fifth Twin Otter to join Airborn. A sixth aircraft is scheduled to be delivered in July 2013.

C-GSOZ arrived safely in Majuro, completing the 1600 mile route in 12 hours and 28 minutes. Today it continues on to Chuuk, in the Federated States of Micronesia with a relatively short sector planned at 7 hours and 25 minutes.

Incident Report

638 - DHC-6-300 9N-ABO Nepal Airlines, Kathmandu

Aircraft left the runway on landing at Jomsom, Nepal and subsequently collided with several obstacles before coming to a stop on the bank of the Kaligandaki River. Although there were no fatalities there were several serious injuries amongst the reported 22 onboard. The aircraft was arriving from Pokhara.

 

This is the third Twin Otter incident at Jomsom in the past ten months.

Incident Report

725 - DHC-6-300 C-GKBO Kenn Borek Air, Calgary, AB

The Danish Accident Investigation Board is reporting an incident with C-GKBO which occurred on 05-May-2013. While operating under contract in Greenland the aircraft suffered a nose gear failure while taxiing on skis. The aircraft is of course repairable, and will return to service.

Aircraft remains at Murietta-French Valley (F70) undergoing pre delivery modifications at Ikhana. Bank of Utah is the trustee owner, not the operator.


The second Vietnam Navy machine has now taken on a much more appropriate "nautical look" with the addition of amphibious floats. The aircraft remains registered to Pacific Sky in Victoria while it undertakes continuing training duties for Vietnam.

272 - DHC-6-300 C-GBEB Ashe Aircraft Enterprises, Calgary, AB

Registered to the Province of Manitoba, Winnipeg, MB 03-May-2013. This aircraft currently remains in Springbank finishing up post rebuild checks, and upon completion will be ferried for repainting prior to delivery to Winnipeg.

 

C-GBEB is the second Twin Otter for the Province of Manitoba, they have operated the former Max Ward owned C-FWAH (MSN 240) since 2005.

 

869 - DHC-6-400 C-FVAM Viking Air Ltd., Sidney, BC

 

Registration cancelled 03-May-2013 to U.S.A. C-FVAM flew Victoria, BC - Reno, NV - Murietta-French Valley, CA on 18-Apr-2013 for additional pre delivery modifications by Ikhana.

 

Although cancelled from the Canadian register, the paperwork for application of the new U.S. registration has not been processed. Unless there has been a recent change, the U.S. registration N153QS was reserved for this aircraft back in Sep-2012. The end-user will remain undisclosed until it is delivered.

The National Research Council Twin Otter is returning from its trip down south, and is currently en route from Tallahassee to Charleston. The aircraft left Canada on 20-Apr-2013. 

 

It is doubtful that the aircraft was actually in the Caymans for the past two weeks, that is just the last airport (and first on the return) where it is able to be tracked.

Unconfirmed - but a semi-educated guess; filed for departure shortly from Murietta is a DHC-6 carrying registration N23256 on the flight plan. That registration is not current on the USCAR, having been previously held by a Cessna 182 until 2008.

 

 I suspect this is actually the second Golden Knights aircraft, whose handover to the military was imminent. If there are subsequent flight plans past El Paso, that should tie up any connection hopefully.
