To put the above information in context; the fuselage of this aircraft was noted stored in a hangar at Whiteright, TX as far back as 2003. It was registered to Michael C. Vinther of Whiteright 28-Oct-2008 and noted in the same condition at the National Aerotech facility in Hampton, GA in Oct-2009 and Oct-2010. The registration N719AS was cancelled 18-Oct-2012, although it was placed on hold through 2016. By May-2013, the rebuild was well underway, with the cockpit section of MSN 510 having been fitted, and by the end of the month the aircraft was structurally complete and noted outside. The plan was to have the aircraft completed and flyable by Aug-2013.

The first delivery of an advanced Twin Otter flight deck retrofit by Rocky Mountain Aircraft. 

 

The obsolete “steam gauge” flight instruments are replaced by Universal Avionics EFI-890R Primary Flight Displays and a Universal MFD-640 Multi-function Display for enhanced situational awareness.  The PFDs support Universal’s unique Vision-1™ Synthetic Vision option. The MFD provides the display for Universal Avionics’ Terrain Awareness and Warning System, as well as traffic, synthetic vision, navigation, maps and external video. The original electro-mechanical engine instruments were replaced with Electronic International’s MVP-50T Turboprop engine display system. C-GVVA arrived safely in Kota Kinabalu on 20-Aug-2013 becoming the first Series 400 to be handed over to MASwings, where it will become 9M-SSA. The delivery flight began in Victoria on 13-Aug-2013, and visited Anchorage, Anadyr, Magadan, Khabarovsk, Vladivostok and Taipei before arriving in Kota Kinabalu.

The Russian demonstrator aircraft has now flown across Siberia, and its current location is now allowing it to be tracked a little bit better. It appears as the aircraft has recently visited Naryan-mar, Archangelsk, and St. Petersburg. The MAKS 2013 Airshow begins in Moscow on 27-Aug-2013 and runs through 01-Sep-2013.

The delivery flight for the first Series 400 for MAS Wings has begun. C-GVVA was airborne from Victoria, BC at 0831 local time, and landed in Anchorage 6 hours & 52 minutes later at 1423 local.

Over the next week (estimated) the aircraft will work its way towards the MAS Wings base at Kota Kinabalu in the Malaysian state of Sabah.

The rather crowded Viking facility in Victoria clears another parking space tomorrow with the departure of MSN 880 C-GVVA on the first sector of its delivery to MAS Wings. It trails the Russian demonstrator MSN 881 C-GVEP which left on 09-Aug-2013, which at the moment is currently awaiting departure from Nome, AK.

We'll continue to follow both aircraft as information availability permits, bearing in mind that flight coverage is a bit spotty after leaving Alaska.

N153QS returned to Victoria from the Ikhana facility in French Valley on 04-Jul-2013, and is awaiting delivery to the undisclosed owner.

C-GVEP has completed the first two sectors of it's trip, and has filed for tomorrow's flights.

Today's flight was originally planned for Victoria to Ketchikan & Cordova, however this was later changed to Yakutat which is southeast of Cordova. Given the short routings under 600nm, it would appear that C-GVEP was not fitted with ferry tanks prior to departure from Canada.

The above is just the final piece of the paperwork regarding N463BA which had previously been sold by Aviation Management Sales LLC to National Aerotech on 22-May-2013. The aircraft is the former Ecuadorian Air Force FAE-449 which crashed 20-Jan-2011.

Operating from the isolated San Dimas gold mining district in the Mexican State of Durango, Transportes Aereos Terrestres S.A. flies two DHC-6-300's, MSN 237 XA-TAT and MSN 601 XA-FIL. The older of the two, XA-TAT was delivered to the company new from the factory 44 years ago, while the newer one XA-FIL was acquired in 2012. The mine is a joint Canadian-Mexican venture of Vancouver-based Goldcorp.

C-GCWV had filed for departure from the Ikhana facility in French Valley earlier this afternoon with a destination of Lincoln, CA (near Sacramento); after a couple of delays the aircraft was airborne off French Valley 1657 local time.

As the aircraft reached the vicinity of Burbank, CA it did a 180 and headed back to French Valley where it landed just before 1800 local time.

It appears the aircraft did some fairly extensive test flying 22/26/29-Jul-2013, primarily within Riverside County. On 30-Jul-2013 the registration was cancelled on export to Canada.

MSN 82 was acquired by Viking Aircraft from Trans Maldivian Airways in Aug-2011, and registered as C-FDTO in Nov-2011. It went to Ikhana the following month as N804RT.

Not exactly sure what the aircraft looks like currently, however here is how it appeared before going down to French Valley in Dec-2011. Thanks to Tim Martin for his photograph.

N59AN remained in the U.S. until 1989 when it was sold to Pacific Airways in the Philippines. Its CofA expired in 1999 and it was acquired by Ashe Aircraft Enterprises by 2004 for reduction to spares.

N187SA went on to Precision Airlines later in 1979, was flying cargo for Ameriflight by 1985 and went to Panama with Aeroperlas in Mar-1990. It crashed shortly after take-off from Isla Contadora, Panama on 18-Apr-1990.
