Sold to Win Win Aviation, Wake Forest, NC 02-Apr-2014, and registered 29-May-2014. N227CS had been parked at the Rampart Aviation facility at Louisburg, NC for a considerable time. The aircraft has been delivered to the new owners in DeKalb, IL via road transport.

Information Required

Today Nepal Airlines is reporting on their new business strategy to be prepared for submission to the Government of Nepal in two to three weeks. This strategy includes the introduction of the Chinese built Harbin Y-12 (often referred to as the Chinese Twin Otter) ordered some time ago. Older versions of the Y-12 were operated in Nepal in the early 1990's, and were phased out in about six years time.

The company's statement indicates that currently, Nepal Airlines Twin Otter situation sits with 1 operational aircraft, 2 out of service, and 1 on lease to another operator. Can any of the readers in Nepal confirm which aircraft are the out of service, and airworthy examples?

In other MASWings news, the company has announced the withdrawal of three legacy DHC-6 Series 300 Twin Otters as deliveries of the new Viking aircraft continue.

Two non airworthy airframes (MSN 629 9M-MDO and MSN 844 9M-MDN) were exported to Canada earlier this year.

With thanks to yyce3 some photographs from Calgary taken over the past couple of weeks.

Although the elaborate tail scheme had yet to be applied, C-GKSQ is seen below in the basic colours of Island Aviation Services of the Maldives. The aircraft continues to be made ready for delivery to Male, where it will join MSN 358 which arrived on 17-Apr-2014.

C-GKSQ was previously operated by the former Maldivian Air Taxi (now Trans Maldivian) as 8Q-MAK from 1999 to 2009, and subsequently in Sri Lanka and Papua New Guinea. It was returned to Canada by Worldwide Ferry/Planes & Parts in Dec-2013, and the same company will also position the aircraft to the Maldives shortly.

So far, as of 20:00 Eastern Time, C-GNVA appears to remain in Anchorage. This theoretically could mean it will stay there for another 72 hours to avoid being held in Anadyr over the weekend. Unfortunately neither arrivals or departures are permitted there during that time.

Unfortunately I didn't check on this one until this afternoon, so I wasn't aware that it had turned into a round-trip back to Anchorage again. From a position just southwest of Nome, AK the aircraft reversed course, and would appear to currently be on the ground back at the starting point in Anchorage. I have not seen a new flight plan as yet, and the aircraft would need to be on the ground in Anadyr before the upcoming weekend.

The sectors beyond Anchorage, particularly through Russia have posed some considerable weather challenges over the past several deliveries.

Double-Trouble

Having been looking for the identity of DHC-6-300 66003 since the photograph appeared on 13-Mar-2014, things became a bit more complicated with a new picture of DHC-6-300 66002.

Taken by Brandon Thetford at Fort Worth-Alliance on 02-Aug-2013, the outward appearance of 66002 is pretty well identical to 66003 (with some very minor anomalies in addition to the doors being installed or removed). Both are shown below:

Given their role with the Special Operations group, it is certainly not impossible that we are looking at the same airplane, with a revised serial number between Aug-2013 and Feb-2014 - or - just as possible, it is in fact two separate machines. Our leading candidates have been MSN 503 N504WJ, and MSN 562 N562CP both registered to Montana holding companies, however as covered in the blog on 07-May-2014, MSN 503 was recently flight planned out of Crestview, FL under its civilian registration N504WJ.

Photo Update

MSN 894 C-GNVA arrived safely in Anchorage, AK yesterday completing the ferry from Victoria, BC in just over 7 hours and 30 minutes. After Anchorage, it is expected to proceed to Anadyr-Ugolny, Russia. Although that was flight planned for today, it would appear to have been postponed - likely as a result of en route weather.

DHC-6-200 MSN 151 pictured below was acquired by Direct Action Aviation for operation by Skydive Midwest in early 2013. The aircraft was previously flown by Skydive Spaceland, whose basic colour scheme it remains in. It was delivered to Skydive Midwest's base at Sturtevant, WI on 11-Jan-2013. Officially imported to Canada 09-May-2014

9M-MDO was damaged at Marudi, Malaysia 07-Nov-2012 when it left the runway and collided with a fence and drainage ditch. It was subsequently transported to base at Kota Kinabalu, where it remained on the hangar floor, unrepaired.

MSN 106 C-FGQH has been rolled out from the Ikhana facility in Murrieta, CA following completion of the RWMI DHC-6-200HG conversion, and it departed back to Canada yesterday. The aircraft had arrived in California on 31-Dec-2012.

Aircraft leaving Ikhana with the 200HG conversion are considerably lighter at approximately 7,200lbs (with 19 seats) providing excellent payload against similarly configured DHC-6-300 Series.

As was the case with the first conversion for Westcoast (MSN 94 C-GQKN) the paint scheme will be completed with titles and logos at a facility in Canada.

TOI's N614AR has been working primarily from Hagerstown, MD since early 2014, however the aircraft has now flown across the North Atlantic, using the call-sign Crook23.


Photo Update

With thanks to European Coastal Airlines, a couple of nice shots of VH-AQU taken at Split, Croatia on 04-May-2014. The aircraft departed to Berne, Switzerland the same day for preparation work with RUAG, and is scheduled to return to Croatia in Jun-2014 as 9A-TOA.

Congratulations to ECA on this next milestone in bringing the Twin Otter into service.
