Operator News

Cayman Airways has announced the introduction of a Saab 340 on the Cayman Brac route, replacing the current DHC-6-300 Twin Otter. Service on the route will also see a 50% reduction in frequency reflecting the additional capacity of the Saab. Cayman Airways Twin Otters will continue to operate the route to Little Cayman and between the Sister Islands.

Skybus will move their Twin Otter operation from Land's End to Newquay as a result of upgrade work to the grass runways at Land's End occurring from 04-Jul-2014 to 20-Jul-2014.

Vietnam People's Navy Transfers DHC-6 Squadron

In a ceremony yesterday (17-Jun-2014) at Cam Ranh Bay the Vietnam People's Navy handed over the DHC-6 operation to the new Air Brigade 954 under the command of Rear Admiral Le Minh Thanh. The DHC-6 squadron was originally established on 05-Sep-2013, and aircraft were previously tasked by the Vietnam Ministry of Defence.

Official Accident Report - Trigana Air DHC-6-300 PK-YRF Apalapsili, Indonesia 05-Feb-2013

The Indonesian National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) has released their official report on the above accident which took place on 05-Feb-2013. This was the second incident for PK-YRF in as many years - on 08-Apr-2012 the aircraft collided with airport buildings at Mulia after both pilots were injured by gunfire from the field perimeter.

This would appear to be a case of the paperwork catching up to the aircraft. N869VK actually departed the Ikhana facility in California on 28-Dec-2013, and was delivered to Vietnam as N869VK between 26-Feb-2014 and 09-Mar-2014. This after the fact registration process would show the aircraft to have been exported from Canada to Vietnam, rather than the U.S.

N162DE continues its trip today which began in Louisburg, NC on 01-Jun-2014. As we can see from the picture below at Amsterdam on 06-Jun-2014, N162DE has now received ARKeX titles, as well as a Rampart Aviation logo while it was back in the U.S. It still however maintains the former U.S. Department of Energy paint scheme. 

Previously the ARKeX contract was flown by DHC-6-200 MSN 181 N181CS which returned to the U.S. in Feb-2014.

Below is Air Seychelles second unit of three ordered in Oct-2013, that were originally scheduled to be delivered in 2015. With some shuffling of production, the first and second aircraft of the new order have been expedited, and should be ready for delivery in the next several weeks. Air Seychelles currently operates a single Series 400 which was delivered back in Jan-2011.
