Aircraft Update for 20-May-2016

302 - DHC-6-300 9N-ABB Royal Nepal Airlines Corp., Kathmandu

The wreckage of the aircraft has been salvaged (it crashed after departure from Pokhara in 2014) and brought via container to Nepalgunj, then to Kathmandu to the BP Museum. The parts will be reassembled for display purposes. 

The aircraft has historic significance due to a hijacking which took place on 01-Jun-1973, as a protest against the one-party regime that controlled Nepal at the time. Following the hijacking, the aircraft continued to serve Royal Nepal until its crash in 2014.

Updating the DHC-6-400 aircraft that will replace the Dornier Do228 with Daily Air Corporation in Taiwan, the new registrations will be as follows:

Of the new aircraft, B-55571 has been in Taiwan for several months, while the remaining are still in Canada pending delivery.

DHC-6-300/400 Instructor Pilot and Engineer Required

Caams Leasing is seeking DHC6-300/400 Instructor pilot and a similarly qualified engineer for a long-term assignment based in Pakistan beginning early July, 2016.

The Pilot Instructor will evaluate and train six (6) qualified turbo prop pilots (each of our candidates has over ten thousand hours with at least 5000 hours’ PIC turbo jet time logged….training records are available for instructor review). Our plan is to select two pilots that would be trained to Check Airman level; and one trained for Ground School instruction.

Similar the Engineer A&P instructor will have five A&P engineers to train and select his replacement as a train-the-trainer for Ground School FAM courses. 

Once the DHC6-300/400 Pilot and Engineer instructors are chosen, a curriculum/syllabus will be needed for both Pilots and engineer for submission to the CAA.

•  Pilots ground school, flight training and OE, including Check airman training.
• Ground training hours required     
• Training and check ride hours’ minimum          
• OE time and landings          
• Engineer ground school and OJT documented training          
• Ground training hours required          
• OJT time in hours or days 

The instructors will need to send us the following for CAA acceptance and approval:

• Currency of Instructor pilot
• Pilot license and medical  
• Credentials for teaching and training pilots (FAA Approval preferred)
• Credentials of engineer for ground school instruction 
• A&P license
• CV
• Passports  

Commercial timeline for a July 5th start, consequently Operations and maintenance time line depending on length of training must start no later than June 15, 2016.

Aircraft has received Canadian registration C-GALU, as seen in the photo below. It continues to be prepared for departure to Canada on delivery, with the ferry flight being undertaken by Calgary-based World Wide Ferry.

Officially imported to Canada 05-May-2016; see blog entry for 03-May-2016 as well.

A couple of contributions from Lance Higgerson in Australia, both of MSN 289 N910HD at different times, and slightly different markings. N910HD was operated by Air Serv International on humanitarian work from 1987 to 1990 before it was sold to the MAF Papua New Guinea as P2-MFB. 

It carries the colours of AMOCO Petroleum, who flew it in their Madagascar operation from 1983 to 1987.

Expected to be de-registered from Papua New Guinea shortly, as the aircraft has been acquired by Vancouver-based Gravitas Aviation Ltd. Once all required regulatory paperwork is completed it will be ferried to Calgary, AB by World Wide Ferry, and will enter the Regent Aircraft facility there.
